“Create Your True Essence Through The Medium of Oil Painting”

  • BeginnerAnne Marie Peterson-Kolatkar, first oil painting, Grand Tetons, Wyoming, dated 1979, oils on canvas.
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced

For the Beginner “Learn to Paint”
Beginning oil painting classes are the perfect place to start exploring this wonderful medium and all the potentials and possibilities oils offer. Along with in-class instruction, you will gain access to private videos with instructions on how to select and buy paint, brushes, and other materials, so you will be ready to show up for class and start painting.

At the right, you can see my first oil painting, dated 1979. I was 11 years old when I painted this. To view more of my work, there is a gallery at the very bottom.

Overview

  • learn while painting your own subject matter (idea) with guidance from Annie
  • work in a deeply supportive environment
  • enjoy a bright new studio space
  • morning and evening classes available

Use this opportunity as studio time with deep support to take risks, experience gentle non-judgmental observation, and review of your work, techniques, and materials. How is a critique non-judgmental, you ask? It does rather sound like an oxymoron, but it is achieved through reflective questioning, discussion of new directions and potentials, troubleshooting by noting weaknesses and strengths in the painting and never is a reflection of or an attack on the artist.

Advanced Energy Healing For All Artist Participants
Did you know that Annie, as your painting instructor, can help you during class to:

  • release creative blocks
  • release self-judgments that shut down your energy, cause your work to stagnate and frustrate you
  • quickly release consciousness problems that keep you in a non-resourceful state, such as  “I can’t…”
  • clear your energy before you start working on your canvas
  • hold space for you to heal your energy while painting

Oil painting classes and home studio practice can lead to positive benefits on so many levels. Check out a few of these wonderful bonuses:

  • reduces stress and increase a sense of peace, which organically produces happiness
  • learn to speak confidently about any piece of art
  • increase your problem-solving skills
  • develop your perceptual relating and multi-dimensional awarenesses
  • add beauty to your life
  • support your spiritual expression in your life (brings joy)
  • make new friends

Meet Your Instructor
Anne Marie Peterson-Kolatkar (Annie) has been oil painting impressionism and realism since 1979. Annie’s oil painting hang in homes and offices all over the world. She is available for commissioned work, which embodies higher consciousness for healing and empowerment. Her guiding philosophy has been to energetically elevate the viewer and transport them to a moment of peace and possibility.

Annie is a beloved teacher with a following from the SFBA where she first began teaching. She has been teaching art informally since 3rd grade and professionally off and on for 20-years, with 10 of those years at the Cupertino Community Center in Silicon Valley. She has taught privately in Southern California. Her students have been as young as age 5 and as old as 87 years of age. Artists of all skill levels, from all walks of life, have studied with her.

Self-portrait dated 2002. Hindu wedding ceremony.

What Her Students Have To Say:
“After you moved from the SFBA, I took several other classes –even one at a local college and I have to say…you are the BEST teacher ever!” -B.B, Los Altos, CA

“I took Annie’s beginning oil painting class to just relax and explore art after I retired. When I started, I didn’t even know if I had talent or not. I showed up with my stuff to paint and a photo of a landscape and Annie taught this old geezer how to paint. My mind is still kind of blown. My family thinks I’m the bee’s knees. Thanks, Annie.” -John S., Cupertino, CA

“I always feel young around Annie. Listening to the palette and brush is the roar of flowers in spring, joyful to start anew, meticulous in power. Easy pressure, study painting and learn poetry. Study light and learn life.” Marcia St.Clair, art student

“Days painting with you, were some of the best in my life!” Judy McNutt, Artist, Poet & Writing Coach, San Diego, CA

Have Questions About An Oil Painting Class?

8 + 8 =

Does everyone paint the same thing?

No. I am passionate about each person bringing to class a photo/image of something they seek to paint that resonates with them on many levels (physical, emotional, mental or spiritual). Please do not bring copyright works if you ever plan on ever selling your painting.

If you want to paint a portrait, be sure that the light levels are balanced and no part of the face is washed out, and the eyes are in focus. If you wish to bring several photos the first night to have me review their potential and help you decide, that is good, too.

I respectfully ask that you do not choose to paint a subject matter that may be a trigger for someone. This is a classroom for learning. You are not renting "studio time" per se where you have liberties with subject matter. I thank you for your understanding and compassion.

Do I need my own supplies?

Yes, you need to purchase your own supplies. A materials supply list will be emailed to you upon registration.

Can I leave my canvas or supplies with you?

No. I cannot be responsible for your canvas or other artist material or supplies. If anything is left behind, I will do my best to text or email participants so that the lost object may be claimed immediately.

Oil Painting Class Policies (Refund, Privacy & Photography)

Important Refund, Privacy and Photography Policies

Dear Artist,

I value our time, energy and resources that we spend together. I have made a deep commitment to be present for you on the dates and times I said I would be present with all my skills, knowledge and abilities in my art studio space.

Within your commitment to me and yourself, for signing up for a series of art classes, it is your responsibility to arrange your schedule so that you can attend my oil painting art class offerings. Therefore, all students will pre-pay for all classes. Your payment implies that you commit to attending and it assures you that I will hold space for you in my class.

If you miss a class, and if a 24-hour notice was given to me, as a courtesy, make-up arrangements can be made with me to come to any other class I offer “while enrolled” and if space is available.

I am well aware that life can be complicated, and if you know well in advance, that you are going to miss one of the dates within the 10-week art class dates that you purchased, please let me know as soon as possible, so I can offer you, within reason, a range of future dates to make up the class time.

If I have to cancel a class due to sickness or an emergency, I will personally reach out to you by text or email to let you know ASAP and will either

  • create a make-up session on a different day of the week
  • invite you to attend an alternate class day and time
  • give you a credit to be used within 1-year of signing up.

I reserve the right to change my oil painting art class offerings at any time. I also reserve the right to withdraw any student from my art class, without refund, if their conduct is inappropriate.

The bottomline is this: I am not able to offer refunds for any class (or specialized workshop that I offer) for any reason, once it has been purchased.

May I come early or leave late?

At this time, class times are restricted.

Is there parking?

I have space available for 4-5 vehicles on my property. First come, first serve. If you are the first in, you may want to consider that you will NOT be the first out. The last person may park across the driveway on the street. This is a long driveway you will be parking on. Carpooling, Uber/Lyft is recommended since street parking is somewhat limited at night.

Allergies and Odors

If you are a highly sensitive person to smells, I do not recommend this class. Every effort will be made to have participants purchase odorless solvents/brush cleaners, but there is no guarantee each person will be able to do this for financial reasons.
